This page explains what data Repo Explainer collects and why. Last updated: October 13, 2026.
You can read every article without an account. We do not show ads and we do not use advertising trackers.
Cloudflare hosts this site. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and to block abuse. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not set cookies.
When you ask for a new article, we set one cookie, repo_visitor, that lasts up to one year. We also store a one-way hash of your network, browser, and language details. We use these only to apply the limit of one free article for each visitor. We also count new-article requests from each IP address for one day to stop abuse. The generate page can use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you are not a bot.
Stripe handles payments. We never see your card number. We store the Stripe checkout ID and the repository that the payment unlocks.
When you vote on an article, we store the vote, your comment if you write one, your IP address, and your browser's user agent. We keep this data for one year.
Some pages load profile and repository details from GitHub's public API directly in your browser. GitHub then receives your IP address. See GitHub's privacy statement for how GitHub uses it.
For a privacy question or a request about your data, see the contact page.
